PCIM Asia, Asia’s leading industry conference for the power electronics sector, will return to Shenzhen from August 28 to 30, 2024. This year’s conference agenda will feature three keynote presentations exploring emerging trends in power semiconductor technology, the evolution of solid-state transformers, and the use of power semiconductors in renewable energy and electrification.
PCIM Asia Shenzhen follows the format of its sister show PCIM Expo & Conference in Nuremberg, Germany, combining exhibition and conference to provide industry professionals, researchers and technical experts with a platform for information exchange on technology and developments in the power electronics sector and support their implementation in new applications.
The 2024 show is expected to feature more than 220 domestic and international exhibitors, and the three-day PCIM Asia International Conference will feature more than 100 presentations detailing research breakthroughs and application solutions in the power electronics value chain. The conference agenda will be centered around keynote speeches, held in Room 9C of the conference venue, discussing key developments in the industry:
“Power Semiconductors for an Energy Efficient Society - Overview of IEC White Paper” Dr. Gourab Majumdar, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan
A comprehensive overview of the latest IEC white paper “Power Semiconductors for an Energy Efficient Society”, exploring the various market-oriented roles that power semiconductors play in various industries and their importance in shaping an “energy-efficient” society. The speech will explore the current and future applications of power electronics and power semiconductor devices, discuss the need for new standards to regulate their development, and make important recommendations to policymakers, regulators and the industry at large.
“Research Status and Issues of Power Electronic Transformers in Modern Power Systems” Professor Dianguo Xu, Harbin Institute of Technology, China
In this keynote speech, the potential of solid-state transformers will be discussed. Solid-state transformers are an emerging technology that can improve the efficiency of traditional transformers and provide flexible voltage and power regulation capabilities. Professor Xu will introduce the advantages and applications of solid-state transformers in areas such as electric vehicle charging, data centers, traction power supply, photovoltaic power generation and AC/DC hybrid power grids. The presentation will also discuss key technical challenges including efficiency optimization, power density improvement, output voltage regulation techniques, and material, structural, and thermal design considerations for medium frequency transformers.
“Power Semiconductors for Future Renewable Energy and Electrification” Dr. Rainer Kaesmaier, Hitachi Energy, Switzerland
Dr. Kaesmaier will explain how power semiconductor technology can facilitate the renewable energy transition from a system supplier’s perspective. His presentation will cover the transformation of the power grid from generation to distribution, emphasizing the need to redefine the grid both geographically and conceptually. Technology trends for green transportation will also be discussed, including advances in rail systems and electric vehicles, as well as revolutionary developments in chip design, module design, and materials such as silicon carbide (SiC).
The symposium will feature a variety of oral and poster sessions. These will cover topics such as silicon devices, electric vehicles, power conversion, wide bandgap power device technology, packaging, peripheral components and circuits, smart grids, and more.
In recognition of the achievements made during the symposium, PCIM Asia will once again recognize outstanding research, innovation, and emerging talent in the field of power electronics through awards. Professor Leo Lorenz, President of the European Power Electronics Centre and Chairman of the PCIM Asia Symposium, will present the following awards:
Best Paper Award – Sponsored by Mitsubishi Electric (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.
University Scientist Award – Five winners, sponsored by Infineon Technologies (China) Co., Ltd.
Young Engineer Award – Sponsored by Semikron Danfoss
